Joanne was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in 2015 at the age of 33. Upon completing her treatments, she started a small website to connect survivors and patients in Hawaii with local and national resources. They have since grown to become a small nonprofit called Breast Cancer Hawaii, and now offer in-person support and educational programming. She has served as a State Leader and Face 2 Face Coordinator for YSC since 2016. In addition, she serves as a Patient Advocate Committee member for the University of Hawaii Cancer Center's Clinical Trials Office and an Education and Race Committee member for Komen Hawaii. She is a graduate of Project LEAD’s 2019 class. In her free time, she spoils her black cat and senior dog, and researches plant-based recipes to cook for her family.
