The Research Think Tank (RTT) Metastasis Work Group focused on the unique issues and concerns of young women diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
The group was composed of advocates:
As well as physicians/researchers:
Three of the 19 research priorities recommended by the RTT focused on metastasis. Below we list the priority, indicate any progress made since the RTT and list any open trials of which we are aware related to or focusing on these research priorities.
Recent research updates:
A recent study found a possible mechanism by which postpartum breast cancer is more aggressive and likely to metastasize.
Current research initiatives/studies:
The Metastic Breast Cancer Project (MBC Project) is asking women with metastatic breast cancer to share their tumor specimens and medical records to further research. One research question the Project will examine is what are some factors that lead to developing metastatic breast cancer at a young age.

Recent research updates:
YSC conducted a large comprehensive survey of the needs (including psychosocial needs) of young women with metastatic breast cancer, and we have presented those results across the globe. Two in-depth publications are forthcoming.
YSC has partnered with breastcancertrials.org to develop Metastatic Trial Search, which helps women with metastatic disease find clinical trials that are right for them. Search for a trial for yourself or a loved one.
