Breast Cancer In Young Women
As the premiere organization for young women affected by breast cancer, YSC feels strongly about the issues. For some especially important or urgent topics, we take an official stance in a position paper—to help advise our constituents and influence public policy.
Using sound scientific data, these papers present our clear position, supported by the evidence.
In November of 2009, YSC responded to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's recommendations on screening mammography. Read or download the YSC Response (pdf).
In July of 2009, YSC co-authored the Joint Statement on the Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young (EARLY) Act of 2009 (H.R. 1740, S. 994). Read or download the Joint Statement (pdf).
YSC made a statement in response to the American Cancer Society’s March 2007 guidelines for breast cancer screening with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). YSC's Medical Advisory Board and Research Advisory Committee reviewed the statement. Read or download the MRI Statement (pdf).
This position paper helps answer questions that many YSC constituents have asked about Breast Self Examination (BSE) and early detection after recent studies. This information will help young women make informed healthcare decisions. Read or download the BSE and Early Position Position Paper (pdf).
