The inspiration for YSC NorCal was born in 2005 in the mind and heart of one Berkeley, California, survivor. Through word of mouth and initial fundraising events, the dream was extended into the larger San Francisco Bay Area community. Today, a strong, dedicated group of survivors residing all around Northern California have brought the YSC NorCal vision to life. We represent many towns and cities including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, the greater East Bay, Napa, Marin and San Jose.

The goal of YSC NorCal is to serve the nine counties in the Bay Area and provide a unique voice among the many breast cancer organizations in California. We participate in education and outreach events in cooperation with the medical, breast cancer and general communities in order to share the knowledge that "Young Women CAN and DO Get Breast Cancer." It is our aim to extend the reach and name recognition of the YSC and to be the premier support organization for young women with breast cancer in Northern California. Our ongoing activities include monthly social events and distribution of our Newly Diagnosed Resource Kits to young women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Survivors, co-survivors, friends and family are always welcome!

Monthly Meetings

Our meeting schedule currently varies based on need. We have social networking meetings and events at least once a month accompanied by other various volunteer opportunities. Once a regular meeting schedule is established, it will be posted here.

News

• YSC NorCal Local Resource Guide: a locally sourced comprehensive resource guide to accompany the national Resource Guide prepared by YSC. Distributed to medical providers, other health and medical organizations and the newly diagnosed.
• Cheering and support for YSC teams and all walkers at the annual Bay Area Avon Walk. 2009 will be our third year participating at this fun and inspirational event!
• Distributing YSC literature at university health fairs, breast cancer conferences and other events and providing speakers to various events hosted by the medical community.
• Co-hosting a film screening of the inspiring documentary Dear Talula with the University of San Francisco Medical Center.
• Volunteering at the Breast Cancer Fund's Heroes Tribute event celebrating the accomplishments of local activists in the fight against breast cancer.
• Hosting regular outdoor activities including hikes, biking events, etc. to promote and celebrate our own health!
