Adopt a Hospital
This program provides information to local hospitals, cancer centers and support organizations to increase awareness of the YSC and that young women can and do get breast cancer. This program enables the YSC to expand its reach, empower its constituents and decrease the sense of isolation they may feel as well as place vital resources in the hands of those that need it the most.
Diversity and Community Outreach
YSC Kansas City Volunteers speak at health fairs and other programming across the city. We educate both healthy audiences and young women diagnosed with breast cancer
Networking/Social Events
We have quarterly meetings followed by social and networking time. We are also working on larger scale networking events to hold on an ongoing basis.
Newly Diagnosed Kits
These kits are designed to provide newly diagnosed patients with practical information on breast cancer and local resources specific to young women. These kits are distributed to patients through hospitals at a time when their need for information and resources is greatest. These kits include videos and brochures on issues related to the patients as well as other comfort items to assist the women through her journey.
Point of Contact
Survivors from the Kansas City area have been trained as YSC Point of Contact volunteers to offer one-on-one support to young women living with breast cancer. These trained POC volunteers meet to talk with these young women and offer them YSC resources and a place to connect.
In addition to YSC brochures, the Greater Kansas City affiliate is proud to sponsor, along with Kansas City Cancer Center and Cancer Matters, a Breast Cancer Resource Guide. The Cancer Matters Breast Cancer Resource Guide is a unique compilation of business and medical services that specifically meets the needs of someone who has received a diagnosis and covers information from diagnosis to long-term quality of life.
