YSC is now accepting applications for Fall 2014 internships! YSC interns will have the opportunity to gain first-hand work experience at a growing national health nonprofit. While most internships are based at one of our three main offices in New York City, Atlanta and Indianapolis, remote applicants will be considered for some positions (please check descriptions for details).  Internships are for college credit only. Qualified candidates must be enrolled in a university program during the time of their internship. YSC is flexible to class schedules.

 FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIPS

Events & Marketing Intern (NYC)

Department: Development

Reports To: Events Manager

Status: Part-time (10-20 hours/week); unpaid internship; college-credit only

Location: New York City; Remote candidates will be considered.

Mission: Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women and breast cancer. Position Overview: YSC is seeking an intern to assist the Development team with researching and completing a competitive analysis of similar events and breast cancer events to YSC’s top fundraiser, Tour de Pink. Interns will gain experience and knowledge in Convio and event management, as well as, exposure to how a development department works in the nonprofit industry. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Compile and analyze research on similar events
  • Compile marketing resources where YSC Tour de Pink can advertise in each region of the event
  • Compile a cost effective analysis based on the research for where and how to advertise Tour de Pink effectively given the budget
  • Utilize their own research to actively market YSC Tour de Pink to increase registrations and fundraising
  • General individual donor cultivation administrative duties, including donor-related mailings an appeal or event-related administrative support
  • Assist in managing social media accounts
  • Assist even manager with day-to-day duties regarding National Tour de Pink events

Events & Marketing Intern (Atlanta)

Department: Development   

Reports To: Events Associate

Status: Part-time (10-20 hours/week); unpaid internship; college-credit only

Location: Atlanta, GA

Position Overview: YSC is seeking an intern who will assist the Events Associate in the Atlanta office with local events and third party fundraising. Interns will gain event management and peer-to-peer fundraising management experience, as well as insight of how a nonprofit development department runs. Duties will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assisting with vendor solicitation 
  • Follow-up with in-kind donations
  • Assisting with peer-to-peer fundraising with participants
  • Follow-up communication with event participants
  • Database Management
  • Strategic Marketing Event Research
  • Helping to Identify best marketing practice for third party fundraising
  • Assist with day-to-day event logistics
  • Assist with committee management
  • Work with Events Associate to increase participants and fundraising for both TdP Atlanta and YSC Champions
  • Assist with grassroots local promotion of TdP Atlanta

Individual & Institutional Giving Intern

Department: Development

Reports To: Development Manager

Position Overview: YSC is seeking an intern to assist our development team with prospect research and stewardship. Interns will learn the subtleties involved in donor relationship building and stewardship, as well as techniques for identifying and soliciting support. Duties are included but not limited to the following:

  • Identify, organize and research  individual donors, corporate and foundation prospects
  • General  administrative duties, as relates to individuals and institutional donor cultivation, including annual fund, Leadership Circle and event-related communications

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in university and receiving college credit for internship
  • A general interest in the YSC mission and in nonprofit administration, marketing and/or fundraising
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Basic Raiser’s Edge, Convio, Salesforce or DonorDrive skills a plus

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INTERN

  • Research and introductions to new healthcare provider connections
  • Connect with Regional Field Managers on travel and meetings with new organizations and clinics
  • Coordinate YSC’s volunteer programs (Ignite and State Leader) communication

Position Overview: YSC is seeking an intern to collect and organize information about best practices for working in a small non-profit environment with a mix of local and remote staff.  Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Researching and creating a library of professional development resources on topics of greatest interest to staff.
  • Researching articles on a variety of topics related to organizational culture, management and professional development (to include topics like conflict resolution, time management, etc.). 
  • Potentially work on a strategy to find topics and speakers to build out the organization’s Lunch and Learn series.
