Adopt A Hospital

YSC IN ACTIONYou are YSC in action. With your help, YSC can reach women in every community across the country, and even globally. YSC’s Adopt A Hospital program counts on local volunteers to make sure young women with breast cancer—through their healthcare providers, neighbors and friends—get the information and resources they need.

Share YSC with Others—This Literature Really Can Change Lives

When you adopt a hospital, doctor’s office, cancer center, clinic or other healthcare facility in your community, you serve as a vital spokesperson for YSC’s activities. More importantly, you will distribute potentially life-changing information to be shared with healthcare providers and in turn other young women—both those already diagnosed and healthy women who need to know their risk. You can help raise awareness among healthcare providers and empower them to keep young women informed and connected.

Small Efforts Spread the Message

It’s a simple task, but one with incredible importance. Adopt A Hospital helps YSC expand its circle of support to young women, ensuring that no young woman has to face breast cancer alone.

This program also empowers volunteers to do something meaningful on behalf of all young women. That brochure you drop off could mean the difference between a neighbor requesting an examination or remaining unaware of the small lump in her breast.

Where You Can Help

Plenty of places in your community serve as resource centers for young women, including:

  • OB/GYN offices
  • Doctors’ waiting rooms including oncologist, radiologist, breast surgeons and more
  • Cancer treatment centers
  • Social-work and nursing departments
  • Resource centers and patient libraries
  • Health fairs
  • Or any other organizations where young women go for support and care, such as wellness centers or your local office of the American Cancer Society or Cancer Support Community

It’s Easy, Take Action, Join Here

  • Use your existing connections from YSC volunteers, doctors and friends to identify which facilities in your community could use your help and YSC’s resources.
  • Find the institution’s resource or breast-health coordinator, breast-health outreach manager or similar official and set up a brief meeting to tell him or her about YSC and its resources.
  • Connect, introduce yourself and describe the Adopt A Hospital program. Ask if he or she would be interested in making YSC’s wealth of information available in the facility’s resource library or waiting area.
  • Create your volunteer profile and order materials to share with the facility. We’ll send you the printed resources for your adopted locations and get you ready for action!
  • Drop off the materials to your facilities at a mutually convenient time and check back every two months to see if they need refills. Contact us  to request more materials or add new facilities at any time.
  • For tips on choosing a facility, setting up your first meeting, talking points and more, please visit our Adopt A Hospital Tips page.

That’s all you need to do—and, someday, some young woman may owe you enormous thanks. To sign up as an Adopt A Hospital Volunteer, simply complete your volunteer profile.
