Current Studies

On these pages you will find a listing of studies currently being conducted which seek to find answers to the questions regarding young women and breast cancer. The section is broken down into clinical trials and other studies.

Clinical trials: A type of research study that tests how well new medical approaches work in a select population of people. These studies test new methods of screening, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of a disease.

Other types of studies include (but are not limited to):

  • Epidemiological studies: studies on human populations which attempt to link human health effects (e.g. cancer) to a cause (e.g. exposure to a specific chemical). These studies are usually conducted over a period of time.
  • Surveys: participants are asked to complete questionnaires, the answers are tallied and trends are extrapolated from the results. The information gathered can help researchers reach qualitative goals such as determining the effectiveness of educational materials when considering participation in a clinical trial, or quantitative goals such as identifying the five greatest concerns of young women who are considering genetic testing.

It is critical that young women participate in these studies to ensure that sample sizes of young women are large enough, results are valid and answers are found to the questions that confound young women and researchers alike. Many members of the YSC community have participated in clinical trials and other studies and have played a vital role in furthering research on breast cancer in young women.

Participation in these studies is safe and well-monitored. If you are interested in learning more about studies relevant to young women currently being conducted and how you may participate, please click on the following links:
