Medical Outreach

The YSC works with doctors and researchers to educate them about the issues surrounding young women and breast cancer and encourages them to improve the standards of clinical care and to study this underserved population. In addition, we collaborate with medical researchers and scientific institutions around the world to ensure that more attention is directed toward research on young women with breast cancer and developing appropriate screening, diagnostic and treatment modalities to address the unique biological aspects of breast cancer in this population.

It is important for the medical and research communities to see the young face of breast cancer. The YSC has presented its Research Agenda Development poster in local, national and international conferences and symposia as well as being a regular presence at these important meetings. The YSC continues to develop initiatives to reach out to and collaborate with the many facets of the medical community as a demonstration of our continued commitment to action, advocacy and awareness. In addition, YSC works closely with an interdisciplinary team of leaders in the breast cancer field, YSC's Medical Advisory Board, to move the mission of the organization forward with medically sound information and encouraging their ongoing commitment to young women affected by breast cancer.

At both the 2004 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and the 2005 conference for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, there were special sessions devoted to breast cancer in young women. Relevant summaries from these and other research focused conferences are below:
