Education

Education Series: Funded in part through a Komen Columbus grant, YSC Central Ohio collaborates with area hospitals, other cancer organizations and clinical practices to offer educational and supportive opportunities to survivors and supporters.

Educational Booth: The YSC provides educational and support materials at booths and tables at area health fairs, breast cancer walks and other related events.

Speaker Panel: YSC in Central Ohio volunteers speak at breast cancer awareness events, medical symposiums and motivational events. Reviews are always outstanding and attendees are touched by the candor and knowledge level of our volunteers. Members have also received tremendous local media coverage.

Adopt-A-Hospital: Under the direction of the National program, Central Ohio OB/GYN's will learn about the importance of breast health for young women and the seriousness of the possibility of young women being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Outreach

Resource Kits for Newly Diagnosed Young Breast Cancer Survivors: One of our most popular and supported endeavors, YSC Central Ohio began to offer this resource four years ago, and it has evolved into a National program. Packets contain local support and resources, the You Are Not Alone video and brochure, as well as a Circle Journey conversation kit.

Courage Night: Each October,YSC Central Ohio hosts Courage Night in conjunction with the National Courage Night initiative. This annual event honors the courage of young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, who live with breast cancer and those who support them. We also honor the memory of those who have passed.

YSC Documentaries: The YSC has developed several documentaries that speak to different issues within the realm of breast cancer in young women. Each documentary can be shown individually with a speaker panel or discussion group afterwards.

Fighting for Our Future portrays the development of the YSC and features the three founders. You Are Not Alone is a virtual support group showcasing a roundtable discussion of survivors in various stages of their disease. The Beautiful 8 continues this platform and focuses on the issues of metastatic disease. Breast Cancer Legacy follows several families dealing with the issues brought up by hereditary breast cancer and the decisions to make. Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mactectomy is a feature film based on the book by Geralyn Lucas and captures one young woman's experience.

Development

In Living Pink: This gala event is our annual fundraiser and brings together members of the YSC Central Ohio community, medical professionals, friends, family and supporters of our Chapter to raise awareness and vital funding.

Scholarship Program for the Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer: Members from the YSC Central Ohio area have had representation at this conference almost since its inception. Each year we are able to fund travel scholarships for Central Ohio members. This program is only made possible through generous donations of the Vicki Speakman Memorial Fund and private donations.
