YSC Atlanta promotes Action, Advocacy and Awareness through a combination of national and local programs.
No young woman should face breast cancer alone.
- We support newly diagnosed women with a grant-funded newly diagnosed resource kit containing valuable information and resources in a useful canvas bag with a water bottle and bandanna. This kit has been successfully distributed through the local cancer centers.
- YSC Atlanta sends women to the Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer.
- We hold monthly social events for survivors and volunteer nights for anyone interested in getting involved.
Members of YSC Atlanta represent the interests and concerns of our demographic on local, state and national levels. YSC Atlanta has representatives that serve on the following boards to reflect the interests of young women with breast cancer:
- Cancer Survivors Leadership Council of Georgia
- Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition
- Breast Health Connection of Georgia
In addition, YSC Atlanta regularly sends representatives to Washington D.C. for the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Annual Advocacy Training and Lobby Day.
Our goal is that no woman is ever told she's "too young for breast cancer" and that young women are armed with the information they need to take charge of their own health.
- YSC Atlanta reaches the OB/GYN community with a mailing to distribute information about YSC as well as inform physicians about the facts surrounding young women and breast cancer.
- Brochures and fact sheets are distributed to all major area hospitals, oncologist groups, cancer centers and breast care surgeons.
- YSC Atlanta targets young women in the metro area discussing the importance of breast health and signs and symptoms that should be evaluated.
- The Breath Health 101 presentation is a large part of our programming and we reach out to the local area high schools and colleges both on our own and in partnership with other breast cancer organizations.
- YSC Atlanta regularly participates in health fairs and community events.
